Oeko-Tex Makes Changes To Their Standards

Within the last 6 months, Oeko-Tex made changes to their standards that required an update in the way we manufacturer our products due to safety concerns over specific ingredients.  The standardized testing agency has established guidelines for the amount of contaminants or materials in textiles that could be considered harmful.

One of the updated Oeko-Tex made in 2011 was in their testing policy for the organic tin compound TOB (Dioctyltin) in textiles like reflective tape.  Instead of ‘extractable’ amounts, the total content was tested. Reflective tape manufacturer Sto-Nor Industry, based in Halden, Norway, was found to exceed the acceptable amounts in their reflective tape products.

So what was our response?  We got right to work on research and development to quickly find a suitable alternative.  This was the position of all manufacturers of reflective tape, including 3M.  We were the first to get a viable product to testing with Oeko-Tex and Loxy was approved to continue operating and selling the new reflective tape.
